The Rutgers Internship Excellence Awards, sponsored by Career Exploration and Success, was established to help recognize the outstanding contributions of Rutgers University–New Brunswick undergraduate interns. Winners of the university-wide awards will be chosen by a committee consisting of staff and faculty who value the importance internships play in helping students achieve their post-graduation goal through developing critical skills and experience.
WHAT DO WINNERS RECEIVE?
- $350 monetary award
- A feature on the Career Exploration Success website and other media
PROGRAM TIMELINE:
- November 15: Application cycle opens
- March 1: Application deadline
- Early March: Winners notified and receive $350 award. Begin scheduling to participate in a video/interview/photoshoot at CES.
- April 30th: Winners will be recognized at the Career Knights of Distinction Award Dinner hosted by Career Exploration and Success.
AWARD CATEGORIES:
CES will confer eight $350 awards for the following categories:
- Arts, Communications, and Entertainment Career Cluster
- Business, Financial Services, and Logistics Career Cluster
- Education and Public & Human Services Career Cluster
- Food & Agriculture and Environmental & Natural Resources Career Cluster
- Life Sciences and Health Career Cluster
- Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Career Cluster
- Rutgers Internship & Co-op Program, Internship
- Rutgers Internship & Co-op Program, Non-Profit Internship
CES and the Rutgers Internship Excellence Award Committee will assign a category to each application. Applicants can win one award.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
The Internship Excellence Awards are open to all applicants who meet the criteria below.
- Be a Rutgers University-New Brunswick undergraduate student currently enrolled in a degree program
- Participated in an internship during spring 2019, summer 2019, or fall 2019 semesters
- Have a minimum of a 2.5 cumulative G.P.A.
- Anticipate graduating in May 2020 or later
- Completed an internship of at least 8 weeks and at least 120 hours
- Apply by March 1, 2020
- Have a Rutgers Handshake account
SELECTION CRITERIA:
The Rutgers Internship Excellence Awards Committee, consisting of staff and faculty, will review applications submitted by eligible applicants by the application deadline. No late or incomplete applications will be considered. Criteria for selection will include each applicants:
- Quality and quantity of work, and achievements on the job
- Initiative and/or original work
- Overall impact and contributions to the employer
- Self-reflection on skills and knowledge gained
- Employer reference to the applicant's internship, including contributions
HOW TO APPLY:
To apply, log into your Handshake account and go to the “jobs” tab and select “RU Internship Excellence Awards: Apply for a chance to win $350!” from the “jobs” list. You will need to complete the online form separately; we highly recommend answering the questions in a word document and then copy and paste your answers into the form. In order to complete the online form, you will need to provide information about your internship site and answer questions about your internship experiences.
Internship site information required:
- Internship site name, address, and website
- Internship supervisor name and contact information
- Internship start and end dates, as well as total internship hours, completed

- What is your proudest accomplishment from your internship?
- What new skills and abilities have you developed from your internship?
- How did you stand out as an intern?
- What knowledge or skills from your coursework were helpful for the internship?
- How have your goals and career development been affected as a result of your internship?
- Why should you be awarded the Rutgers Internship Excellence Award?
